Underwater Paintings: Beneath the Surface
Beneath the water’s surface lies a world of extraordinary color. In the low-light conditions experienced by divers, these environments often appear subdued—dominated by blues, greens, and greys. With sunlight or additional light sources, however, reef walls and coral formations reveal breathtaking explosions of color. This hidden world is rarely visible to us above the surface. There are moments underwater when one hovers in front of a reef pulsating with life, overwhelmed by its beauty and complexity. The great masters could hardly have composed it better. These naturally evolved, fragile, and symbiotic habitats deserve our respect and protection. Through photography, I carefully bring these underwater paintings to the surface—revealing their beauty without disturbing their balance. This series was exhibited at photoSCHWEIZ 2020.
